The Preaching of the Cross and the Power of God

“For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are SAVED it is the power of God. For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent. Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.”  (1 Corinthians 1:18-21)

For many people, the thought of a man going to the cross to die for another person’s sins is pure foolishness. Many people are too caught up in their own intelligent ways to waste their time with such foolish thoughts, but that is just the way God chose to save the should of men and women. The scripture tells us that to the SAVED the preaching of the cross is the power of God, and they say that because they have experienced it firsthand. The scriptures tell us that God will destroy the wisdom of this world and make it look foolish. Not only that but the scriptures tell us that it pleased God to do things this way. That is the beauty of the gospel of Jesus Christ. You do not have to be a college graduate or a rocket-scientist to know God because the salvation of God is available to ALL people.

“Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven. In that hour Jesus rejoiced in spirit, and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes: even so, Father; for so it seemed good in thy sight.”  (Luke 10:20-21)

Jesus Christ told his followers to rejoice in the truth that their names were written in Heaven! Jesus wanted the believers to know that their names were written in the book of life (Revelation 20:12-15) which happens when a person is born again of the Spirit (John 3:1-9). Jesus then communed with his Father in Heaven and thanked him that he revealed these precious truths to babes. That word babes is basically talking about simple-minded people and not necessarily a young child. That is just how the Lord works in the salvation of souls because he will not allow any man or woman to get a drop of glory in such things. Millions of people have totally immersed themselves in the wisdom of this world, but they have never had their names written in Heaven. They have totally neglected the wisdom and power of God which is found the preaching of the cross of Jesus Christ.

“But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: That no flesh should glory in his presence.”  (1 Corinthians 1:27-29)
